Frequently Asked Questions

For individuals new to massage therapy, here are some commonly asked questions that might arise:

What should I wear during the massage?  Massage therapy draping requirements refer to the protocols and standards set in place to ensure client comfort, modesty, and safety during a massage session. Draping is the use of sheets, towels, or clothing to cover and expose only the part of the body being massaged, while keeping the rest of the body appropriately covered.

How much clothing do I need to remove?  That is truly up to you.  LMTs can work on you whether or not you have clothes on.

What type of massage is best for me?  Lets figure that out together once we begin the session.

Are there different pressure options? What's best for me?  Yes, there are different pressure options that we will discuss.  Likewise, the session will be customized for you.

Will the massage therapist ask about any health conditions or medications before the session?  Yes, you will complete an intake form

How long is a typical massage session?  60 or 120 minutes

Should I talk during the massage or remain quiet?  Great question.  We should keep the conversation about the massage.

What can I expect to feel during and after the massage?  Great!  If I need to use a technique that could feel more therapeutic, I'll let you know.

Are there any side effects or discomforts I should anticipate?  Yes.  Always drink a lot of water after a session.  This helps to flush out metabolic waste that has been flushed from the muscles.  Also, if therapeutic work was done, you'll feel different.  Maybe a little sore.  But, that will ease up at whatever rate your body can heal.  Most times, you wlll feel a relief of symptoms before you leave the massage table.

Should I arrive early for my appointment?  Yup.  Some paperwork needs to be completed, and you need to get yourself comfortable and settled.

Is it appropriate to tip the massage therapist?  Tipping etiquette for personal service therapists, such as massage therapists, can vary depending on location, the quality of service received, personal preferences, and local customs. In general, tips for personal service therapists are typically within the range of 15% to 20% of the service cost.

How frequently should I schedule massages for maximum benefit?  We will talk about that.

Can massage therapy help with my specific condition (e.g., muscle pain, stress, flexibility)?  Yes

What should I do if I feel uncomfortable or experience pain during the massage?  Please feel free at anytime to communicate with your therapist.

Are there any post-massage recommendations? (e.g., drinking water, resting, stretching)  Yes, all of those are great ideas.
